Fat Tuesday in New Orleans leaves the city in the world biggest mess. After the last parade, Canal street, which divides the city in two parts, becomes like an ant-hill which was just demolished.

I took this picture of this sleepy brass band on Mardi Gras morning. It was very early in the morning. The sun had just risen and I was making my way over to St. Charles for the Zulu parade. As I rounded the corner of Toledano and Magazine St., I heard the crash of the big bass drum and saw the parade. I knew I had to get involved.

The rain came down so hard that as cars came by, it would cause a wake that would send water rushing into the shops. I also did $600 of water flood damage to my car this day. Boys from Holy Cross Highschool after a school Mardi Gras parade in 06'. It was the first Mardi Gras after Hurricane Katrina. Those who were around that year, did the best they could to make fun of the situation, including making costumes from FEMA tarps. On this occasion, the boys had filled the back of thier truck up with water and were floating around in it. The Holy Cross Neighborhood is in the Lower 9th Ward.
